Return of Kanellos:The Greek protest dog





















GREEK protesters have been getting used to the company of a demonstrator who never misses a face-off with police a street DOG. A dog that has been seen at nearly every demonstration in Athens over the last two years has turned up again during the recent protests against new austerity measures. The street dog is seen in a variety of dangerous places: bravely lying down before lines of demonstrators, running at police, barking at riot cops prepared to shoot, and even dodging tear gas ,Joining leftist demonstrators, civil servants, and teachers’ unions, this dog takes on a squad of riot police to protest austerity measures in April, 2010.
This big  dog has attended every major demonstration in Athens, Greece for the past two three years, reports The Guardian newspaper. In fact, he showed up most recently during the current anti-austerity protests.
Kanellos is seen here on December 8, 2008 during a night of riots protesting the death of a 15-year-old pupil at the hands of Greek police.
According to The Sun, photographers became aware of the dog as they kept noticing him in their photographs of masked activists and police.

Kanellos[1] (Greek: Κανέλλος) (meaning "cinnamon was a stray dog that resided on the streets of Athens. Greek photographers capturing riot footage started to notice the dog when he kept appearing in their negatives.
